- he likes sweet things more than savory, especially fruit,, fruit bat dettlaff is basically canon in my mind wow

- he purrs like a cat!! guys vampires should totally purr like cats!! get with the times

- his hair is like really curly and he feels no need to take care of it, but regis ofc is really into proper hair care and forces him to sit through elaborate routines in order to keep it manageable (which is difficult cause sensory issues)

- he wears gold instead of silver!! the silver allergy is canon but i think his metal color of choice is gold (mecoded)

- he was really antisocial in his youth (his whole life actually) i think even amongst other higher vampires? so while regis was going to wild parties & getting drunk on blood dettlaff would just sorta stand on the sidelines and idk doodle in his sketchbook and then leave after an hour because of the noise (he'd still get invited everytime until others got the hint to leave him alone)

i have so many young deet hcs theyre all self indulgent because I HAVE LIKE A SENTENCE OF CANON MATERIAL AT BEST its so good tho if i ever write a fic it'll be about their youth shenanigans

How are you able to capture emotion and microexpressions in your comics? I've never been able to and you do it so well!

Do you post on ao3 or do just do more comics?

thank you! you can convey most of an expression through eyes/eyebrows alone, here's some examples

you can do that by changing the tilt and distance of the eyebrow and how much of the eye is covered by eyelids! if you're drawing more realistic it can be a bit harder since the changes will be more subtle

then the mouth can give a different meaning to an eye expression or go along with it, but yeah it's mostly trying those different options, the angle at which you're drawing a character helps with emphasis as well

some characters emote in a way that can be harder to convey or has less range so it also depends from which character you're drawing!

I suggest you look at how cartoons do it, since most of the expression will be done through the eyes and mouth they tend to be a lot more extreme, then you can tone it down a bit for your art if you need to

and no I don't post on ao3, I usually don't write!

im (unfortunately) a homestuck fan and my boyfriend is a voltron fan. insane combination ik but recently we bonded over him calling you "the voltron artist" and me being like "wait no thats the homestuck artist their art is literally in the comic". i just thought that was funny and wanted to share. its kind of nice that your art is so recognisable across so many fandoms :)
