have you ever considered just joining hydrus?
“what?” the question doesn’t even feel like a real question. it takes him several seconds to process the fact that anyone might ponder this and come to the conclusion that it’s not the worst idea in the history of the world. “no… no, i would never do that. is this… a serious question? like… do you believe that it would be okay for me to do that? are you asking because you think it’s seriously a good idea? if i enjoyed what i was doing for the gang, yeah, then i can see why i might just go ahead and join. but… to tie myself to that? to be trapped with literally no hope of escaping? what would even be the point? i don’t fight every single day of my life for a better future just so i can doom that future. i’m not giving up like that. i hate the gang life, there’s nothing that i could possibly want less than that. i can’t… i can’t do that to myself. i can’t do it. i won’t do it. i know i keep fighting to keep on going, but that’s because i have at least a slither of hope left. i feel like i’m extremely stupid for it, but i still have it. if i joined hydrus, that would be gone. what do you think would happen then?“
DID YOU HEAR?
Among the ranks at HYDRUS, they say that new boutique opening over in Yeongi is just a front for something deeper. Isn’t it suspicious that it was pushed through so fast? It feels like only yesterday that work began and suddenly it’s ready to open... Not to mention the rumours going around that THE SERPENTS’ own SUNNY is the sole owner of the store. It doesn’t feel good being left in the dark but there’s equally something thrilling about investigating yourself... Guess you’ll just have to visit when it opens— See if you’re allowed past that secure staff room door. Everyone has a few secrets, right?

Dani was never really considered a girly girl, not ever since high school. The MPD had toughen her up to an extreme that she hardly owned anything considered very feminine in her closet or own a good pair of lipstick. But god did she loved facial masks and doing her nails from time to time. it was relaxing and while she didn’t have many friends, the few who she did have were always there to bring in the fun when it came to movies or pure gossiping on top of her bed while they got all comfortable with tea masks and cute headbands.
“Thanks for coming again! I really needed this.” Dani said to Sunny, smiling a bit before pressing the white sheet more into her skin. It was always hard to stay still when it came to those things on your face, but they always felt so amazing once you could take them off. “So which color do you want your nails today? I entered a drugstore for once and brought a rainbow set.”

... fuck, he knew he should of taken the day off today.
normally, he didn’t have to come this way. normally, he just skirted along side streets to get to his shift at barae motors, to avoid morning congestion and any possible mishaps, as was common in the heart of the city. some days he’d take public transport, others he’d take his motorcycle if he was feeling like it. it all depended on where he ended up leaving from, if it was a friend’s place or kyungri’s apartment.
the night before must’ve muddled him up real good to not remember his usual route (but he wasn’t complaining. in all honesty, he had no regrets).
but he’d gotten caught in a crowd before he knew it, caught in a fiasco with a flashy stage. by the time he’d realised, it was too late. he was in the midst of too many people, and he could tell there were soldiers positioned strategically to keep people together.
heads rolled -- or, more precisely, a head -- and shit just went whack.
‘fuck’, he thought to himself again. ‘should’ve taken the damn bus.’
the public execution would have left him stunned -- because what the fuck had he just witnessed -- had chaos not immediate. he was jostled, pushed, people screams piercing the air around him among noises of utter chaos and panic. he saw people being beat up on one side, others being gunned down.
he couldn’t stay here. he knew as much that, if he did, he’d probably die.
his eyes scanning the crowd, adrenaline growing in his veins, his eyes caught a familiar face at the edge to his right -- ‘ji ... eun?’ what the fuck she was doing here, among this hellhole of a carnage, he had no idea. maybe she’d gotten caught up just as he had, in the wrong place at the wrong time. regardless, he made a split second decision in that moment and darted towards her, shouting to try to get her attention, stretching a hand out to yank her to his side when he got close enough.
“jieun! hey! we gotta go! ‘else we ain’t gonna be much than fuckin’ pig meat on the floor!”

Bella raised a brow at the girl as soon as she set a foot into her bar. The bartender was no fool and she surely wasn't stupid either. This woman was aware of many dangerous faces on this island that appeared way too harmless to get by without arising suspicion but this girl was one of them and Bella knew her affiliation even if she hadn't set a foot into her bar before.
Rather than being annoyed at the sudden increase of hydrus people frequenting her bar though, the ex-cop goes for a well placed joke that aims to both provoke and lighten the mood at the same time. For the woman to get defensive only reveals to the owner of this establishment that she has her suspicions and surely is up to date with the news as well. Hands on the counter she lets her lips curl into a crooked smile, exhaling a small chuckle. "I was kiddin' darlin'. Y'looked as if y'were ready to either tackle me or run for it the moment I make a sudden move. As long as y'dun pick a fight in 'ere yer welcome to stay n' preferable leave lotsa money here too."
Cheerful as always the smile then widened into a cheeky grin as the bartender straightened out again to go back to polishing a glass. "Y'gotta know how to pack a punch if y'wanna lead a bar like mine. Bein' an ex-cop does gimme some benefits in terms of fitness. Janitor's too old n' hirin' a musleman is expensive too. One's gotta know how to protect 'emselves these days, no? But enough chit chat. What can I get'cha?"
do you trust me?

what a silly question! it shouldn’t be a question at all, just like they shouldn’t be friends at all, but here they are, and here that question is. jinah tries not to think about what happens to her friends or the people that she loves. there have only been a handful; everyone else is expandable or boring or interesting only for the shortest amount of time. everyone else fills a void that cannot be filled by anyone or anything. jieun fills her pocket and her cloudiest days with nothing but warmth, and it’d be a lie to say that she doesn’t treasure the younger woman like she used to be able to value people in the past. call it nostalgia – it’s much more palatable to jinah that way.
“yeah, of course,” she answers honestly, which is something she isn’t used to doing in the first place. it must be some kind of week. again, thinking too much on it would give her a headache, and a heartache besides, and jinah is in need of neither of those, ever. she gets enough from her bad habit, but jieun is certainly one of her better people. so she grins, and nudges jieun’s side a little. “and i’d ask if you trust me, but we both know you shouldn’t, am i right?”
