I remembered a dream from a while ago actually, and it inspired this little AU in which Nokoru Imonoyama and Tomoyo Daidouji were prince and princess of different kingdoms. And their parents had arranged for them to marry to strengthen the connections between their kingdoms or something like that idk
Naturally... Nokoru and Tomoyo are not happy with the arrangement. It’s not that they dislike each other, but that they know that what they have will never evolve beyond that of a friendship on account of the fact that they will simply never feel attraction for one another. And they would have liked to have at least been allowed the freedom to marry who they actually wanted to marry.
As it turns out, though, in the Imonoyama Kingdom there is a kind, gentle young lady who works in the castle and who is good friends with Nokoru. And in the Daidouji kingdom there’s a serious young knight whose duty at all times is to be Tomoyo’s protector just as his family has always served to protect the Daidouji family.
They are usually not permitted to be around whenever Nokoru and Tomoyo are brought together to ‘bond’ but, well, neither Nokoru or Tomoyo are known to sit by and listen to rules like that just because they have to.
And Nokoru’s friend has been ever-so-curious to meet the princess she’s heard so much about. And Tomoyo’s bodyguard would very much like to meet this Nokoru fellow to see if he is a worthy enough suitor for the princess.
Tomoyo takes an INSTANT liking to Nokoru’s friend, a pretty girl by the name of Sakura Kinomoto. She’s dressed plainly when they meet but oh Tomoyo can only imagine how pretty she would be in the various dresses she has back home and plans to bring some along next time for her to try them on.
As for Nokoru, he finds Tomoyo’s guard a lot of fun. Suoh Takamura is so serious and dignified and expresses much exasperation at Nokoru’s almost childish playfulness but he can’t deny there’s an odd charm to him that draws him in. And he can tell that he’s a good guy who has everyone’s best interests at heart.
After this first meeting, they continue to bring Sakura and Suoh along whenever possible and gradually, these new friendships become stronger.
After a while, it becomes clear that going ahead with this arranged marriage would be a terrible idea. Because really, what were their families thinking? And circumstances have changed.
They voice their feelings on the matter to their families, declaring that they do not wish to continue with the arranged marriage as they have other people in mind.
Basically
After a good while, a wedding does eventually take place... but it’s not the one that was originally planned, and instead of one happy couple, there are two.
Nokoru positively captured the heart of brave, serious Suoh. And Sakura was swept off her feet by Tomoyo. And it’s all very gay and beautiful and it’s the greatest double wedding in the history of ever.
