5. What’s your favorite thing to draw?
Hair!!! It’s so much fun drawing different kinds of hair styles and I love to add some oomph to characters’ hair that sometimes can’t be conveyed as well in animation or I’ll prefer a different hairstyle so I’ll get to re-imagine the character with a (personally) more appealing hairstyle. Can be hard (especially w/ characters like Allura and Shiro) but I still love it.
15. How long does an average piece take you to complete?
an embarrassingly long time because I get distracted and go on twitter and instagram and tumblr or I’ll watch youtube videos or I’ll eat and it’s just so dumb. even without distractions simple sketches can take at least an hour. an average piece might take me 4+ hours from start to finish with a cleaned sketch (no lining) and without rendering except maybe hair.
30. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?
Aside from the dozens of amazing artists I look up to who make me want to be at their level someday and the endless support and love I’ve gotten from friends and followers who motivate me to do my best, I’ve been working on my story since I was like 11 or 12. That’s given me eight years to contemplate and think about what I really want to do with it. I’ve realized I want to write this story in the form of a comic (the dream would be an animated show geared towards young adults and rated appropriated w/ a pretty style and fluid animation but lol yeah right) and to do that I need to tackle anatomy, different body types and facial features, dynamic shots and poses, BACKGROUNDS, how to show characters interacting w/ others and objects, how to angle things, how to make things look like they have weight, how to design weapons and outfits more than just what I find attractive, how to draw animals and creatures. I’ll especially need to learn how to draw fights differently and engaging each time I do. I’ll also need to learn how to draw things I won’t necessarily want to draw but the story calls for. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone to get to a point I am striving towards in order to feel proud of my work when it’s all said and done.
tl;dr my love and passion for my story and wanting to release that story in the best form of itself it can be is what motivates me.
I also am aware I will keep improving, but I am no where near where I need to be to even think I can start tackling such a huge commitment.
