RWBY Original Character 12

Name: Sunset Blaze

Origin and Influence: “Sunset” from the red, purple, yellow, and orange colors of the horizon at sunset; “Blaze” is related to flames and the orange colors they are normally shown as

Age: 17 (Birthday is June 16th)

Symbol: A shimmering sun with fiery phoenix wings (art by @chuckles-the-jester)

Species: Human

Appearance: 5′7″ with light skin, teal eyes, and a toned hourglass figure (for comparison, she would be between Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long for her sizes); long and wavy red hair with gold highlights that reaches her waist/hips; two faded scars on her back near her shoulder blades (sort of like where one would have wings emerge from themselves); Sunset’s combat attire consists of a leather jacket, a purple halter top, leggings, a skirt with an ammo belt, and knee-high black boots with flame-like markings; after the Fall of Beacon, she wears a new leather jacket with Fire Dust, a pair of jeans with her emblem on the hip/thigh area, a pair of black fingerless gloves, an ammo belt, a new pair of boots, and a purple tank top; she also gets a tattoo of phoenix wings on her back to cover her scars

Personality: Sunset is an intelligent girl that has a cool and calculating exterior with lots of confidence, but can actually come off as endearingly awkward at times; when she first reaches Beacon, Sunset tries to come off as friendly despite her apparent edgy look; in battle, Sunset retains a calm and level-headed focus against most foes; as Sunset makes friends with her teammates and class, she slowly becomes a major pillar of support for them when she takes it upon herself to help with each problem as much as she can; under her friendly and collected demeanor, Sunset also has an explosive temper that reveals itself when things spiral out of her control and her frustration builds up until she snaps at the closest person near her; after realizing that things can be out of her hands, Sunset chooses to improvise or change plans on the fly when the time calls for it; while studious, Sunset prefers getting her hands dirty rather than read books all the time; despite all of her confidence, becoming leader of her team has given Sunset doubts of how to act, so she looks for support from others as much as she gives it

Backstory: While still in combat school before Beacon, Sunset was more of an anti-social loner who was the best in her class who didn’t discover her Semblance yet; because of this attitude, she barely interacted with the other students and believed she was able to handle things by herself; during a class trip into an area infested with Grimm, Sunset ignored her teacher’s instructions and left her assigned group to hunt the monsters; separated from everyone, she attempted to clear out the Grimm she encountered on her own; unfortunately, they were much tougher than she thought and she had no choice but to run away; one of the Grimm managed to slash at her back when her Aura was broken and left her two scars; downed by the Creature of Grimm, Sunset could only cower in fear before her teacher arrived and brutally killed the demonic monster; after returning to the school, Sunset’s teacher talked to her about how her own behavior nearly got the poor girl killed and that she needed to change for the better; taking the advice to heart, Sunset Blaze decided that making friends while at Beacon would help her do just that and even improve her already skilled abilities; with new friends by her side, Sunset became happier, more social, and even discovered what her Semblance was with their help

Theme Song: Giant Step from Kamen Rider Fourze and Don’t Lose Your Mind from Kamen Rider Drive

Weapon: Sunset Blaze uses a special “Sniper Sword” that resembles Crescent Rose, but transforms into a knight’s sword instead for melee combat; the rifle mode has quite a bit of power and accuracy which allows Sunset to blast rocks and trees apart; the gun is also semi-automatic to allow multiple quick shots

Aura and Semblance: Sunset’s Aura reserves are large and allow her to use her offensive capabilities to the fullest potential, while her defenses at average at best; her Aura color is a fiery red; despite her combat skills, Sunset’s Semblance is not what one would think for somebody of her appearance; her Semblance is a form of “Empathy” that lets Sunset connect to a person’s mind like telepathy and mind reading; by focusing, she can read one’s thoughts to hear and feel their current emotions or even see through their eyes; to search further, Sunset makes contact with somebody to hear their current thoughts and even see their memories; if she is emotionally bonded enough to her allies, she can communicate with them with their thoughts; as Sunset’s Semblance continues to grow and evolve, she discovers a number of other abilities it has such as lie detection, seeing through illusions, entering dreams, the power to negate abilities that mess with emotions, immunity to mind control of any means, and the ability to copy and share other powers (a lot of abilities that seem OP, I know. But, there IS a lot of potential in Empath powers in fiction. Plus, Sunset doesn’t have full access to them immediately and using too many abilities at once can harm her)

Fighting Style: Sunset’s melee combat focuses on using her sword to great effect with her years of swordsmanship, but she also has excellent skill in hand-to-hand combat using a Karate-like style to strike at enemies and defend herself against other weapons; aside from her sniper rifle, Sunset uses Fire Dust in her leather jacket to attack from a distance; when activating the Dust, the crystals glow bright orange into design similar to her emblem on her back with the sleeves acting as the wings; Sunset’s mastery of Fire Dust allows her to manipulate the flames with precision, skill, and ferocity against multiple foes at once; the main weakness of this fighting style would be that using too many of her skills in battle can tire Sunset out quickly, so she must wait for the right moment to choose her next attack and this can test her patience
