It’d been a while since Chara had been to any other timeline’s version of the RUINS. She stepped through the doors, fully armored, and kept walking down the long hall, motioning for Frisk to follow.

She hadn’t ever seen them so populated. It was a little disarming, in a way. She tried to blend in, pretending like she was a member of the extended Knight Knight family of monsters. Behind her, Frisk drifted along with their hood up.

It was better than getting caught in a foreign timeline as humans. The pair approached the Ruins House without incident, Chara raising a hand to signal for Frisk to hold on.

If the Ruins were this busy, then that could only mean one thing: Toriel was around. And despite the dangerous encounter she’d had with the last Toriel she’d visited, Chara still had hope that she’d be able to meet and talk to other versions of her mother in peace. Now that she was older, the talks seemed more important somehow.

Maybe it was because of Frisk, who drifted half a foot off the ground behind her. She didn’t want to admit how close to true Asriel’s needling about ‘Grandma Chara’ really felt sometimes. Once the chamber was otherwise empty, she took a deep breath, stepped up to the door and knocked.
