Dean had given the unrelenting douche a subtle but clear look to back the hell off or deal with him. That, paired with Charlie’s PDA, finally broke through the guy’s delusions and sent him packing. Dean’s shoulders slackened now that the threat was gone and his attention shifted to the redheaded woman.
He shrugged like his actions were no big deal. “You know me, always glad t’help.” He offered a noncommittal smile that only lasted a quick moment before he added, “Though, for next time: just give‘im a swift kick in the balls.”
“You won’t hafta tell’im twice.”
“You know, not everyone is as into kicking random people in the balls as you are.” Charlie smirked as she gave him a slight shove with her shoulder. She knew Dean meant well, but his filter wasn’t as good as it used to be. And it was never that great to begin with. “So, where did you slip off to? Did you find some pretty girls you just had to make swoon over you?”
“But you’re into gettin’ hit on by pricks who think they’re somehow entitled to what’s in your pants?” he remarked back. If anyone deserved, and needed, a kick in the balls, it’d be them, for never grasping the concept that no meant no. “Sorry I interrupted then.” He knew that hadn’t been the case, as he had read the situation easily from across the room, but he was trying to make a point.
Charlie switched the subject of conversation over to him by asking him where he had gone, and her assumption hadn’t been far off. He had been talking to one, but that’s when he noticed Charlie being harassed. There had been no contest as to which woman mattered above the other and why he stood where he now stood. “I struck out,” he opted to tell, which wasn’t exactly a lie. There was no chance in salvaging what he had going, as he had caught a glimpse of the aforementioned prick now trying his charms on her, and her responding in favor. But he didn’t regret his choice.
