"This doesn't mean anything," Aki mumbled as he grabbed Sunny's waist.

Through a fake smile, Sunny replied, "Your mom doesn't mean anything." He pressed a hand to Aki's chest, looking up at him through his eyelashes.

"Oh, real origin–"

Sunny cut him off by pushing himself up onto his tiptoes and kissing him directly on his stupid mouth.

Aki held him tighter, thumb digging into his hipbone, and he pulled away, willing his blush to go away. "Do you think that was good enough to fool them?"

Ever since Aki's father had outed him for public brownie points, Gossip Girl had been hounding him, trying to catch him with a guy to throw him to the wolves that was their audience. Sunny offered to pretend to be his fake boyfriend— a kind way of saying he negged Aki into the situation.

It just made logistical sense.

Gossip Girl was convinced something was going on between them, with their thirteen posts about their supposed rivalry. The commenters had begun to "ship" them, telling them to make out to solve their differences and things of that nature.

Sunny had told Aki that they were just giving the people what they wanted, and they could break up in two weeks when they were old new, then everything would go back to normal. It was a win-win situation.

That was how they ended up here, on the steps of the Met, where they knew people would snap pictures.

Aki shook his head. "You know those weirdos won't be satisfied with one kiss."

"Good point," Sunny agreed, before diving back in.

Aki's mouth was hot against his, hungry as he deepened the kiss, all tongue and teeth. Sunny's head was spinning, and he gripped the front of his sweatshirt to steady himself.

How did a loser like Aki learn to kiss like that?

He pulled away again, breathing shakily.

"I think that'll do it," Aki said, smugness threading his voice.

Sunwoo could only nod in agreement, at a loss for words.

Sunny was pouting and had been since he'd shown up at Angie's party. He looked like a kicked puppy, sitting in the corner nursing his Appletini. Daisy was going to put a stop to it.

"Sunbeam, what's got you so glum?" she asked, throwing herself into his lap. As much as he tried to pretend otherwise, he was a sucker for physical affection and she had more than enough to give. "You didn't even smile when Ang did a really bad job of pretending not to see Lily Rose come in."

Sunny shrugged, though he barely raised his shoulders. Daisy ran her fingers through his hair, pushing it off his forehead. He sighed, closing his eyes as he leaned into the touch. "Promise not to make fun of me?"

She scoffed, grabbing his face in her hands. "Of course, dove. Who do you think I am?"

This finally got a ghost of a smile out of him, but when he opened his eyes they were a whirlpool of sadness. It made her chest hurt. "I know you're trying to be Mother Teresa now, Lazy Daisy, but a few months ago you would've told me to leave because I'm ruining the vibe. Forgive me for not immediately trusting you with my vulnerability."

She nodded along. "Okay fair," she admitted. "But I swear I won't do anything like that now. You're free to feel all your sad boy feelings."

He snorted then gestured to somewhere across the room. Her eyes followed his hand, and she matched his frown with her own when she saw Aki and Audrey draped over each other. They were whispering aggressively to each other, glancing around, completely unsubtle. Aki met her eyes and sent her an awkward wave with a lift of his drink.

Sunny made a pitiful noise in the back of his throat. She turned back to him, grabbing his chin to make him focus on her instead of the boy that had stolen his heart. "I don't want to be jealous... but I am," he explained.

"I thought they broke up?" was the only response Daisy could come up with. She was shit at the comforting thing.

Sunny nodded. "They did, yeah. And it was my fault, which felt horrific when Aki told me. But, uh, that wasn't.. That wasn't what I meant."

It was so strange to hear him stumbling over his words. Sunny was the most self assured person she knew. It could've just been some stupid boy that had him fucked up like this.

He sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. "It's not... I'm not jealous that they could be dating or whatever. I don't care. I ruined any chance of anything happening between me and Aki anyways. It's just.." Daisy's heart fell to her toes when she saw tears well up in his eyes. Sunny never cried. She didn't know he knew how to cry. "This is so fucking stupid, and you have complete permission to mock me relentlessly for this, but I just.. " A tear slipped down his cheek, sliding through the glitter Angie had applied earlier in the night, leaving a trail of stardust in its wake. "I want to have a person like that. Someone to go to when I'm upset. Someone who will love me unconditionally. It's pathetic, I know, but I've never had that. And I'm jealous that he gets to have it."

Daisy felt like she was going to cry next. She didn't know the ins and outs of his relationship with Aki, and knew even less about his relationship with his parents, but she never could've imagined an admission like that from him. She didn't know he was so lonely

"Oh, Sunny. My sunbeam. My shining star." She grabbed his face, kissing away his tears, making him laugh, the first real laugh he'd uttered that night. "I'll be your person."

He sent her a smile, still weak but a bit stronger than before. "You don't have to-"

"I mean it, Sunwoo. I'm serious. You're not going to alone anymore. Okay?" She grabbed his hands, holding them close to her heart. "Okay?"

He nodded, burying his face in her neck as he started to cry again. He wrapped his arms around her in a hug. "Okay."
