day 60
Today, I was prematurely transported back to America upon discovering a derelict shopping mall that extended over an interstate. This was far from what I expected, but it didn't take long to desire a change of scenery. Later, I found myself in a beautiful meadow searching for cover from impending strikes of lightning (a rarity in Helsinki). Caught without an umbrella, I moved quickly to the echoing crashing of thunder.
The day ended with a return to more familiar grounds. I had not been to the islands of Suomenlina since my first week in Helsinki, and it felt great to revisit. This time, it was a lot warmer than that afternoon in early May. Equipped with a water bottle and a litre of some sort of grape juice, I was prepared to bear the heat for the afternoon. The rocky shores of Suomenlina made for a great space to sketch and appreciate the far-off horizon. And when it got a bit warm, I could always dip my feet into the cool waters. Nate climbed hills, Bradley stacked rocks, Mubarak read our assigned reading a few months late, and I began to imagine what my studio project could become.
