Black out poetry 

where can we get ideas from? all ideas are un-original. Black out poetry comes from that idea.  see this ted talk shown in monstrous workshop run by illustration students. 

my thoughts are.....

Where can I get ideas from words? And from other peoples words? When they are mashed up are they really my own or their own? No one owns these individual words, so how can people own ideas? Whatever ideas there are should be there for the taking, since all ideas come from experience. going back to my previous work, even ideas found in dreams are unoriginal since we can only dream of what is a mash up of things we’ve experienced.

Final printed postcards.... I got them printed in town, and I found this experience frustrating as I gave up control. As an ode to mass production, I asked them to print their default postcard design on the back, which actually looks oddly shabby-sheek. The final set I chose were of 10 postcards. I noticed after printing that I'd made a couple of mistakes on one of the postcards, choosing the wrong file to put text on, and positioning it not where intended. I didn't notice this on the computer, probably due to a combination of poor eyesight, fatigue, and staring at a computer screen for too long. I didn't make a proof print before printing professionally, because I didn't want to pay for the extra printing costs, but I will make sure to proof print the final images in the future if I make more photoshop work, so it is easier to notice anything I don't like. As I found handing over control to the printing shop so frustrating, the long wait in the unknown, coming back several times ect I think I may go back to traditional work. I enjoyed working in the print room last term, so I might combine etching prints, screen prints, and painting into my work.

Now these are those black and white images overlaid onto these, using the luminosity layer setting in photoshop. I thought these looked great on some, mostly the more simple images, but didn’t work well on the images with a complicated composition. I want consistency, so I decide I’ll go back to using the font I made from my handwriting.

I had some printed out because I need to check what the colours will look like printed compared to on my computer. They came out darker than I expected, so I will keep that in mind when finishing the designs.
