a Selfie with Shinigami

1. How did you come up with the name Shinigami?

I originally stumbled across the name thru watching the anime bleach. In the english version the main characters are called soul reapers but in the japanese version theyre called shinigami which translates to death god. The name itself really intrigued me and looking into the actual origin of the name i found out that in ancient japan it was thought that shinigami were the cause of depression and suicidal thoughts in humans, and i thought it fit very well haha.

2. When did you first get into making music & who influenced you to do so?

I was into music my whole life but i didnt start actually making music until i was about 12. When i was younger i played drums and then i stumbled across skrillex and thought id try to produce dubstep, which i did for about 2 years. Eventually i stumbled across sbe/gtb, shwb etc and fell in love w underground music. I ditched my sound and started making beats, then i rapped for a short period of time and then i started singing. My main influences are blink 182, bladee, bones, a day to remember, and yoko shimomura

3. Where did you grow up & how would you describe your upbringing?

I grew up in east bumblefuck new jersey. I got bullied a lot bc i was super awkward in school like i was listening to pop punk and metal from a very young age and my town was super small and close minded so everybody just thought i was a weirdo lmao. I grew up fairly isolated i mainly just stayed at home and played a lot of video games, drew sonic and dbz characters, and played with toys. I think it was good for me though like i learned to be content w being alone.

4. What was the process like putting together your “Occam’s Razor” project?

It was honestly put tg so sloppily i dont kno why people like it i kinda just had a bunch of songs stocked up n put them together.

5. What are three goals you have for yourself in the next 3 years?

i wanna work with yung lean and bladee, move out my parents house, and take over the world
