Whats going on with this Mary McDonnell thing?
A podcast was released a little while ago where she talked about - among other things - the fan reaction to Sharon’s death on Major Crimes, which has been overwhelmingly angry and negative. I think people were expecting her to be more sympathetic to that viewpoint. She made a point of validating the various emotions and reactions that have been shared but expressed frustration at the negative outpouring and particularly the fans who have decided not to watch anymore. She also disagreed with some of the major storytelling grievances that people have cited.
Which, of course, is her right. My whole point is that we can all respond and read into things however makes sense to us. I don’t think, though, that fans should feel guilty for deciding not to watch anymore, or worry that they’re letting Mary down by being angry or disagreeing with her. I’ve seen a few posts to that affect - people feeling guilty and apologizing for being angry, etc. - and that made me really sad. That’s what I was trying to address more than anything specific that was said in the podcast.
