Sketches for an indigenous Supergirl OC. The idea is that her outfit is still incredibly modern and clearly supergirl with indigenous Cree elements that aren't over the top or cumbersome. It wouldn't make sense to have a lot of feathers or big pieces that are either expensive sacred or easily breakable.
I could imagine a lot of it would be for show like for PR events or meeting people. Once fighting starts she'd have to remove them or even have specialized ones developed through the tech superman himself uses.
Ribbon skirts are a very big part of current indigenous fashion and even making ribbon pants is a newer more modern fashion trend amongst native women. They are gorgeous and the perfect way to add a small detail to her skirt. The colors are red yellow and orange for a touch of vibrancy. Other versions could have embroidery as well.
Her cape as well would have one or two ribbons at the edge. It stays red in solidarity with Superman but also indigenous women. MMIWG
Turquoise jewelry is a huge staple. All my aunties wear it lol I always remember the big gaudy bracelets and piercings and earrings. It's such a pretty color. She wears large bracelets almost like cuffs or I can imagine even gauntlets with the turquoise in them.
Or possibly even leather gauntlets with beadwork on them.
She would sometimes wear earrings but they would always be taken out. Beaded earrings are so gorgeous and a huge part of our fashion. Something smaller. These designs are based off the medicine wheel and feathers because they are pretty
A brooch holds her cape which is another beaded piece. I can see it later becoming metal with the same design on it. I'm not good enough to draw the details and I love the idea of her having multiple of different designs and patterns and shapes.
There's more I could do but so far I'm incredibly happy with this she would be so beautiful. I'll happily create a more traditional look and practice so many more doodles of her.
Before I get a comment on it. Yes she has short hair. She's directly based off a cosplay self insert of myself I am fully Plains Cree and I have short hair. Not all natives need long hair to be native. Not all natives have thick long hair. Not all tribes have the same sacred beliefs with hair. Scissors to my hair don't take away my culture.
