Joanna and Herbie are definitely apples and oranges I just feel like as far as like profeciency in their instrument and style they're definitely on par

So I just listened to Kingfisher and a couple other songs and all I know is that she is soooooooo not up my alley lol

I'd say Joanna Newsom is on the same level maybe slightly higher than Herbie Hancock in terms of skill; she's a master of her craft but its hard to judge her song writing skills as she often writes in collaboration with people. Also there's a concert pianist named Conrad Tao who is an amazing musician and the pieces he's written are amazing.
