So when ever either of them get really hurt it can get difficult. And depending on the way they get hurt they react differently. I’m gonna go from least heartbreaking to most heart breaking with these headcanons
When Kara gets hurt after blowing out her powers she always tries to hide it from Cat. Partially out of embarrassment and partially because she knows that if she’s hurt Cat will worry more. Sometimes she will get hurt. Sadly though once she accidentally burned part of her arm and covered it up for almost a whole day. When Cat found out she rushed Kara to the DEO.
When Cat gets hurt Kara always blames herself, she’s a superhero after all shouldnt she be able to save the people she loves from any type of pain. If Cat got hurt by something simple like bad fall Kara would freak out because it makes her think about how human Cat is. It scares her that Cat, this strong woman, is breakable. Sometimes Kara will start overcompensating and get to the point where she superspeeds around the house just to stop Cat from stubbing her toe. When Cat gets tired of it of being babied she forced Kara to sit down and actually have a conversation about what’s going on. It’s a lot of talk about how Because of Kara’s powers she has to hear anytime someone she loves gets hurt. She hears the spike in their heart beat and the small noises of pain. And she has to know that she can’t do anything to help she is invincible and she watches everyone around her hurt so easily.
It’s worse if Kara gets hurt in a fight because Cat has to explain to Carter (if he doesn’t know karas sg) why Kara won’t be home. She can rarely be by Kara’s side during it. The DEO won’t let her in (let’s be realistic even though Jonn & Alex trust her it’s above their heads they can’t let the queen of all media in) So Cat can’t see Kara she can’t know for sure if Kara is ok or if Alex is lying to her to calm her down. And when it’s life or death Cat feels so utterly helpless because there aren’t many ways to help a kryptonian it’s up in the air she just has to hope that Kara’s body will heal itself.
If Cat gets hurt by a villain Kara goes ballistic. She is terrified t the mere thought of Cat being hurt by one of her enemies. So when it actually happens Kara losses herself for a while. She loses her temper at the villain she goes a bit overboard when taking them down. After word she retreats into herself. She blames herself and hates herself for a while. Cat tries to help to convince Kara not to blame herself but seeing Cat is just a reminder that she failed to protect her. It takes Kara weeks to get back to herself after Cat is hurt. It takes time for her to work through her fear and every time Cat gets hurt the cycle will start again
