I’ve been to plenty of Mexican markets. Superior Grocers isn’t as nice as Vallarta, but the prices are lower and it’s clean. They opened in 2015 in a new strip mall. SG has more of a warehouse look and feel. There’s an in-store bakery that churns out cakes, muffins, cookies, pan dulce, rolls, and more. They also make their own tortillas, salsas, guacamole, rotisserie chicken, fresh masa, and prepared foods. You can order coffee, agua frescas, tacos ($2.49 each), burritos ($7.99 each), enchiladas, pupusas, ceviche, soups, fried chicken, and more from the deli.

The produce prices were pretty low, even for the organic produce. The meat department is staffed. It’s a full-size supermarket and has everything you’d find in a supermarket, including a floral department, extensive wine/beer selection, etc. They also have an insurance agency on the premises. I spotted a Red Box machine and some other machines towards the front of the market. Parking should be easy.

"These hens are forced to live in a space the size of an iPad for their entire lives! These intelligent animals don’t have the ability to do anything natural, like perching, dust bathing, or even spreading their wings. It is such a barbaric practice that is has even been criminalized in countries all over the world and in several U.S. states. 

Nearly all of Superior Grocers’ competition--including Walmart, Aldi, Target, and Albertsons-- have already made commitments to completely move away from cruel cages. Not only retailers, but the top restaurant chains, food manufacturers, and hospitality companies are all phasing out cages from their supply chains. Even the top egg producers have stated they are moving away from cages and that cage-free is the future. I will no longer shop at Superior Grocers until it decides to end its support of this extremely cruel practice."

WALK THAT TALK, Los Angeles--put your money where your mouth is (for those who can afford to make the choice)! I know they likely have even more practices that also need changing but, this is a chance to create healthy work environments, healthier products (maybe), etc., too.
