📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖 Hi everyone, hope you’re all well. Today I’m sharing a short review of a book I recently read on my Kindle and was recommended by my good friend Janel from @keeperofpages Superior is a work of nonfiction and an intriguing one at that. As a scientist, I’m used to thinking more logically in my daily life, especially when it comes to solving problems and being practical. However, it really hit home for me that sometimes, even science can be skewed to fit in with certain persistent belief systems. Take the theory of biological differences between races for example. It was staggering to discover how as recently as the 1990’s with the advances that The Human Genome project brought us, there were still scientists out there determined to use it as a way to prove that there are clear differences between the black and white races. Have we even learned from the past? Sadly, sometimes it doesn’t seem so. Even now there are still journals published and studies happening around the world that seek to find a definitive link between our genetic information and the colour of our skin. We know so much more about environmental and cultural effects on an individual than we ever have done through history, yet some people are convinced that there must be a more basic answer in the DNA. As to why they’re searching so hard for a difference? I’m not certain. I can’t quite understand what it would prove or whom it would benefit. I found Superior to be a really thought provoking read, especially as I completed my dissertation at degree level on The Human Genome Project 😳 Some parts seemed to be slightly repetitive for my liking but generally, it provides some fascinating insights which definitely left me with food for thought.
