Miracle Creek was one of those books that tempted me from the very moment I read the synopsis. This novel follows a group of people in a small town in Virginia who are all part of a new treatment in a hyperbaric chamber which claims to treat conditions like autism and infertility. Written from several points of view, the story follows a horrific explosion in the chamber that kills some and maims others for life, both psychologically and physically. The question is, who set the fire? Is it part of an insurance scam by the owners? A protester warning of the dangers of the new technology? Moment by moment, we start to unravel the mystery of what happened that evening and it turns out that more than one individual has skeletons in their closet. With that intriguing storyline I couldn’t fail to want to read this book very badly! Lucky for me, my bestie @keeperofpages wanted to read it too so we had a lovely time buddy reading and discussing it. The novel was clever in the way it dissected the plot and as I’m a fan of multiple POV’s, I was delighted that Angie Kim used this method to tell the story. It was quite obvious to both myself and Janel that Kim has had experience in the courtroom and certainly she tells us all about that in the author’s note at the end of my edition. Because of this, there were times when the narrative had less emotion to it than I was expecting. Saying that though, this was primarily evident in the courtroom scenes. In that kind of environment, it is obvious that there had to be an element of detachment. This certainly improved as the novel developed and I’d be very interested to read whatever this author writes next!
