hm.... Lars time travel episode... where he gets transported into his old body... and has to pretend to be his old self because absolutely no one will believe "yeah I'm from the future but sent to the past in my own body"... once again confronted with his past self's own behavior... having to pretend to be someone he isn't anymore and specifically someone he hates... truly seeing the effects his old behavior had on his friends and family but not being able to change it because that would only make everything worse... having to act mean to them because that's what he would have done...
dare I go even further and say he would try to overcompensate too? self hatred really distorts the past, he tends to think of himself as having been worse than he actually was, near evil really. so he acts meaner than he would have, figuring he'd do stuff like yell at a stranger for no reason when in reality the most he'd do was roll his eyes. so everyone's like "dude what the hell is going on, why are you being so mean today? you're not usually like this." and he's like huh?... i'm not?... but i... but wasn't... didn't i... but everyone hated...
and. and the having his old skintone and hair . but in like the worst scenario for it. .. having to go back to the pink after everything's over hahaha
[WARNING: CONTROVERSIAL] I think Lars should get a new cape at some point in Lars of the Stars
Like the current fit is iconic of course but... it's. not his. it's iconic to another character that the Crewniverse decided to make a reference toward with Lars' outfit. Which is fun, but...
I just don't think that the main outfit of our new main character should be a reference, y'know? If he's getting a series all about him then he should have a unique outfit. Something undeniably Lars, something where you see the cape on its own and everybody thinks of the exact same character.
So like tear that thing up. Bye. Make him put it in the laundry and it turns out it was hand-wash only or something. Force him to steal another cape. Assemble his own outfit. I wanna see something LARS.
Plus it's like his own little gem reformation aw cutesy
i mean idk it's just it's
you know,,
somethin g like that...
larsposting.
wait i was looking at the synopsis for #34 of Steven Universe Ongoing, and while this description makes the comic seem way more dramatic than it actually is (it's SO lighthearted), I'm intrigued by the last line it's something I surprisingly have never thought about before.
Hm. Hmm. Stuck as an outsider forever on his own ship. Hmmm. In the current timeline the crew are very accustomed to Earth so he'd no longer feel like an outsider in that regard... but he is still the only human(ish) in a ship full of Gems. man the parallels between him and Steven are insane. BUT
He was born a human and he gained these new powers which is cool but he's lived such a different life from them. And even with his gem capabilities he's still part human, something they will never truly know. 18 years spent growing up in completely different conditions before he met them and they're so similar which is why they're best friends but they're also so so so so so different and some of the differences they will never understand.
He's human-ish on a ship full of Gems. And he's their Captain, but...
Sometimes he brings up something, anything, and the Gems don't understand, and he's once again hit with the fact that he's a different species from them. They don't know what it's like to be human.
Sometimes they bring up stuff that he doesn't understand, too. And fuck. That hurts.
He's their Captain and they're his crew and they travel through space and steal shit together and yet... he's always a little bit of an outsider on his own ship. Maybe he always will be...
hmmmm thinking about Lars and the other Off-Colors' first meeting... he died yk. part of their first impression of him was his fragile human body hitting a rock and dying. permanently gone and only saved bc of Steven's pink diamond magic. i'm just. thinking. about how that might affect how the Off-Colors see Lars. just thinking.
also just. goddamn. how it must feel for their first interaction with one of their best friends and Captain involved him dying. should be purely a joyous experience and yet it involves him straight up disappearing from existence. trying to think back on meeting their captain for the first time and they can only think of that robonoid exploding again and again and again and him not moving and they didn't entirely understand but Steven was sobbing and later they found out just what exactly happened and that he was GONE and just BARELY saved and it's going to happen again one day and ummmmm I'm sure they're very normal about that yes yes 😁
in my head i don't think Lars even likes having powers, they're a representation of everything that was taken away from him. He'll use them, yeah, they're convenient (well, mostly only the portals, the rest are very niche- okay moving on) but he hates just having them at all. He hates using them, he hates having them, he even hates just saying that he has powers, because it's a bright pink highlighter on the fact that he isn't entirely human anymore. It's especially worse when he accidentally uses them - I imagine the stupid voice power is a certain kind of hell, something all too easily triggered when angry and often causes damage. And the few times when he's not paying attention and walks over a puddle or something- ugh, it saves his shoes, but it's just another thing, another stupid alienating miserable thing, he's such a thing. Pure misery when he jumps and realizes he's going a bit higher than he should, god, every tiny little hint towards it puts him on the edge of crying.
And that damn hair portal.
He's human. He was human, he's not supposed to have these powers, he never wanted them. He lived a normal life. He was supposed to have a normal life. And the powers are fun on paper, and he wouldn't give up the space adventures for the world, but he's pink and he has stupid magical abilities that set him apart from every other human in existence. Sorry, not 'other', he doesn't exactly belong to that group anymore.
He has powers. A human isn't supposed to have powers. He's not human.
