The Ultimate Search For the Ultimate Sword of Ultimate Heroism || Felix & Colm

There’s been an anonymous bounty posted on the academy’s bulletin board detailing the search for The Ultimate Sword of Ultimate Heroism. Apparently, it’s been hidden somewhere in the monastery. The mysterious benefactor makes great emphasis on the fact that they deliberately hid it, as is willing to offer a generous reward for any who ‘complete their trial.’"

The moment Felix laid eyes on the bounty notice on the bulletin board, his interest and curiosity were lit aflame. He deliberately chose to ignore the fact that it was a weird request from some bored aristocrat. He wanted that damned sword.

Unfortunately, Felix was not the only one to see the bulletin (even though he did try to rip it off of the wall to make sure no one else could see, but was promptly stopped by monastery staff). A student from the Black Eagles house--one whom Felix often saw around the training grounds showing off their swordsmanship, if he recalled correctly--stood beside Felix as the two looked over the call to search.

"If you think you're going to get that sword before I do," Felix started, turning to peer at the student with narrowed eyes. "You're dumber than you look."

Unicorn Tales

A village’s plea comes to the monastery: almost all of their children have vanished in the last couple days. A natural cause for great concern to be sure, and Garreg Mach does not hesitate to send you and some Knights to check out the situation. The distraught parents are not able to tell you much, but they recall a vague rumor of a “unicorn” appearing in the nearby woods, and the children wanting to see and befriend it. Sounds like the best shot you’ve got. [Grants Riding +1]

Vanessa dismounts Titania, absently scratching that one particular spot underneath her jaw in thanks. The pegasus shuffles her wings, sniffling at the scraggly shoots of grass underfoot. Monastery Knights continue to fill the town square, lugging along supplies of their own. 

“Stay here, girl,” she murmurs to her pegasus, removing her hand. Titania blinks one dark eye at Vanessa, then returns to her investigation of the grass. Shouldering her lance, pegasus knight heads toward the fray. 

She’d joined the response team without a moment’s hesitation. Children are in danger; there’s no time to waste on idling about. And, she admits, she’s curious about this so called unicorn. 

A flash of blue snags her peripheral vision. She maneuvers through the crush of Knights, catching snippets of conversations. 

“We should question the parents—“ 

“It’s some prank.” 

“Who would want to kidnap a bunch of children?” 

A frown tugs on her face. They should be forming a plan, organizing teams to search the woods, not standing around gossiping. The urge to snap at them, make them get to work is hard to ignore. But she’s not a captain here, so she tamps the instinct down, chasing down the head of blue hair. 

“Colm!” Vanessa calls. How unexpected, to see a familiar face. “Are you here to help as well?” She knows of his…proclivities toward thieving. This town doesn’t need any more excitement; it’s a good thing she found him before he began stealing trinkets off distraught families.

"Hey, Felix!" (The thief enters view shortly after announcing himself.) "I heard today was your birthday, so I got you this rock!" As he says this, he produces:

A whetstone! (And in pristine quality too!)

"Pretty neat, yeah?" (He beams brightly as he speaks.) "I figured a swords guy like you might like it!"

"Anyways, that's about all I came here to do." — He then tosses the stone, sort of as a gesture for Felix to catch! — "Happy birthday! See ya!" A salute, and then's he's off!

Felix was hardly the type to expect any gifts on his birthday, but he knew better than to reject any that came his way. His mother would have his head if he were caught being rude about being given a gift, after all. Of the few manners he still had, being respectful of gifts was one of them. Besides, at least this one was useful.

He caught the "rock" and turned it over in his hand, feeling the heft of it with an amused twinkle in his amber eyes.

"A 'sword guy' like me, huh?" Felix shook his head and gave a wave as the other departed. "Thanks, I guess." His sword needed sharpening anyways, and now he wouldn't have to borrow the school's. Maybe that idiot wasn't so dumb after all.
