I took the last few days to only share the content of Black people on my social media. I muted myself. I intentionally and lovingly amplified voices that struggle to be heard through the social conditions we’ve created. This also meant I only liked the posts of Black people. And I didn’t make commentary on other peoples posts with my own privileged and white perspective. I listened and I read. . . I will never know what it’s like to have people hate me for what I look like. I won’t ever know that. Maybe I have experience that on a small scale by individuals, mass socially conditioned hate. . . There really are no words to make it right. Because racial injustice is a form of abuse, and it’s just another toxic family cycle that must be unlearned. The only way to make that kind of change is to take intentional action. I ask you to do this every day in your homes to repair your own toxic family cycles in regard to varying degrees of emotional, verbal financial and physical abuse. Now do this in the world. . . The answer is, always has been, and will continue to be love. When you set your intention that you are only going to love other people, then you are choosing to allow your condition of fear to fade. Then your choices change. Even if this is subconsciously. Your responses, reactions, who you choose to like on social media, what business as you choose to support, all of that starts to shift in tiny ways. And when we all start to make those tiny repeated shifts for long periods of time, that’s when the magic happens. And one day we don’t know how it happened, but we realize everything got better . . Today, set your intention for love toward yourself, your family, towards those who hurt you most, towards people different than you, and most especially towards Black people. Even if you don’t think that you don’t love them, set your intention that you’re going love them a little harder. . . Then take intentional action to use that love anyway that you can. Why? Because there is only love and fear. You get to choose which one guides your life. . . #supportblacklivesmatter (at Aurora, Colorado) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBLajJyH_2y/?igshid=yumsnhrdrsu6
