Supporting me with my chronic migraines
I have friends & family that are so supportive it makes me feel so very loved. Examples:
- People who genuinely listen to me explain it and respect my limitations
- Respecting my need to document things in my tracker app
- Helping me avoid my triggers is a huge one
- Citrus/citric acid is a HUGE food trigger & my bff tastes samples before me to make sure there is no citrus in it.
- She literally stops me from trying her drink or food if she even thinks it has citrus (we always try each other's food/drinks)
- She will without hesitation take the lemon off my water or lime off my drink and put it in her drink before I can even notice
- She helps me explain to servers it is what my doctor considers an allergy due to my extreme sensitivity to citrus
- She regularly asks about my migraines & if she can help in any way
- The occasions I have level 9 or 10 migraines she'll bring me soup or fruit salad because it is something I can handle when nauseous
- Other friends understand when I refuse to leave home due to pain & cancel plans
- Sometimes they simply come over and we watch a movie with brightness & sound turned down in a dark room
- Friends don't let me smell a lotion, bath bomb, shower product, or other scented items if they realize it has citrus in it.
- Friends get me lavendar scented items if they know that scent is both calming & helps relieve my headaches
- They won't let me ignore my Plant Nanny app reminder to drink water
Honestly just respect the person & know everyone is different. Triggers are different. Sometimes something won't bother them & the next it makes them physically feel ill.
Each migraine can different. The way in which to relieve it can it can be different. AND THAT IS OKAY. Just be supportive ❤
