Sometimes my pendants try on three or four different chains before they reach their final form. I think this one has officially arrived, on that vintage braided solid sterling silver chain. tbh I rarely begin the process of smithing a piece with a clear image of the final product in my head. Sometimes I will sketch out ideas for small collections, but when I'm at the bench I deviate so much from the drawings that I have to wonder if there's any point in planning at all. I have the luxury of improvising when I'm developing unclaimed work, but customs are a different animal! Depending on the request, I like to use my handcrafted elements (twisted wire, castings, shot, repoussè shapes, etc.) on the tabletop and arrange them around the stones. I'll do several "mock ups" then send photographs of options to the client. I have ended up with designs I otherwise never would have stumbled upon if not for this method... it keeps the process exciting! It's like three-dimensional sketching, and I would guess CAD had an influence on my bench process. ♡ THIS #newlanderturquoise pendant necklace with #pyramidstuds and the most gorgeous vintage braides sterling chain is up for grabs in my #etsy! • • • • #retrovibes #vintageinspired #makersgonnamake #jewelrydesigner #ladysmith #instasmithy #lawrenceks #lfk #universityofkansas #shoplocalkc #supportlocalkc #handmadekc #igkc #kansascity #westernchic #southwestern #westernwear #madeinkansascity #shopsmallkc #handmadejewelry #supporthandmade #turquoisejewelry #ilovejewelry #turquoiseoverdiamonds #futureheirlooms #riojeweler #westbottoms (at Historic West Bottoms)
