“We have a deal. This locks in steadfast, long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine.” ~ European Council President, Charles Michel 🇺🇦💙💛🇪🇺
#Repost @weareukraine.info with @use.repost . . . All 27 leaders of EU member states have agreed on an additional €50 billion support package for Ukraine within the EU budget, the European Council President @charlesmichel announced on X on Feb. 1, 2024.
“We have a deal. This locks in steadfast, long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine,” Michel wrote. “EU is taking leadership and responsibility in support for Ukraine, we know what is at stake.”
The funding had previously been blocked at an EU summit in December by Hungarian Prime Minister @orbanviktor, whose lonely yet vocal opposition to supporting Ukraine probed rumors of potential punitive action by the EU in response to what could be regarded as a breach of EU principles as defined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union. Orban abstained from a vote on opening EU membership talks with Ukraine in December 2023 by leaving the voting chambers in a pre-agreed manner.
