I might be a late comer to Black Kids, but that doesn’t mean the rapturous fire I now harbor within me for the Jacksonville indie rock outfit is any less intense than fans who have been with them since their acclaimed debut album Partie Traumatic in 2008. They quickly won me over with a perky effusion of nostalgic surf pop and melancholic new wave last month when they released If My Heart Is Broken and announced their sophomore full length. Rookie, which arrives September 15th, also features this new treat, In A Song, which feels like a fine mixture of The Drums, The Smiths, and Bloc Party, with a hint of Wild Nothing and Future Islands in its dreamy synthwavey flourishes. You can pre-order Rookie, here. I already have.
