Surface Explorations
Your sweater hangs limp, body slung over my purse, and keeps trying to slink away to explore the city without us. Beside me, all eyes and smiles, we are a broken compass; "closer" has no direction (how can I lead east and west when the only place I want to go is in?) Our fingers zippered, your arms, my left and right. Night floods our time but we wade, bubbling over until lips burst like fireworks and our true colors bleed.
You say we're all just hourglass but what of this world here, between the grains? I follow your fingers and convince myself (you, too) there can only be more. Bursting, we search - worlds hidden in soft spots behind knees, pooled in collar bones, stitched into creased palms.
