Daily Surface Map for Tuesday April 22, 2025
Surface weather map at 9 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday night, January 29 (examine the date at the bottom).
Yes, snow can sometimes reach the ground when temperatures above freezing! I see reports of snow at 33 F, 35 F, and 36 F, stretching from southern Illinois eastward to Louisville, Kentucky. The snowflakes there are probably almost melted but still retain enough of their ice core for the automated instrument to register them as snowflakes. (Interestingly, it’s *raining* at 36 F in southeast Kentucky.)
the surface temps make me cry even more than the 500 mb temps i just posted
