The Surfers' Code

If you are new to surfing or you just didn't learn, here is surfers' code. Other surfers will respect a surfer who respects the code even if you are a novice. DO NOT Snake or drop in. If someone has the wave already, you have no right to drop in or snake to try to take it. There will always be another wave. RIGHT OF WAY Yield to the surfer who either is furthest out, has been waiting longest, or furthest inside and closest to the peak. PADDLING OUT Always paddle wide. If you're caught inside, always stay in the white wash. Respect fellow surfers and don't get in their way when you paddle out. COMMUNICATE If you are first to feet or the first on the wave, it's yours. But always remember to call left or right on a wave to prevent miscommunication. ALWAYS Surf within your ability, no big waves until you are ready. Take off with commitment and paddle hard. DANGER Do not ever let go of your board, it's a danger to every surfer in the water. REMEMBER No surfing between the red and yellow flags. Respect other surfers.
