The origins of skateboarding in Africa is not authoritatively known just as the origins of the sport itself. But many believe it was brought into the continent by the early European settlers as a leisure sport. For a long time the sport was seen as a game for the bourgeois and their kids. This was because it wasn't easy to come by a skating board on the streets, unless one had a relative in abroad and was generous enough to bring one down. With time this has change and now there are skating boards on almost every corner of the streets in Africa. Many young people on continent are taking interest in the sport, and aiming to promote it widely. For example, there are several skating groups in South Africa, Nairobi, Kampala, Kigali, and in Nigeria there's a group of young skaters called @wflsncrm, and @surfghana in Ghana are promoting the sport on the continent. Skateboarding as a sport has gained prominence World wide in the last decade. A reason why the sport has been added to the 2020 Olympic Games. I hope Africa makes an appearance at the Olympics. This weekend @surfghana put up a skating event to screen films made during their Skate Tour GH at the @lokkohouse. . . 📷: Nana Osei - 2018 . . #lokkoroad #lokkohouse #osu #accra #ghana #africa #skate #skateboard #skateboarding #sport #olympics #olympicgames #kigali #kampala #southafrica #nigeria #wafflescream #surfghana #streetstyle #streetsport #ashantiimmigrant #everydayafrica #accrawedey #visiterlafrique #dynamicafrica (at Osu, Accra)
