They're going to build again on the site. Perhaps the building will be made so that it can just float away when much of the state finds itself underwater.
Wow the 911 calls from Surfside just released. I recognize the pool deck slab collapsing could be the "explosion" they reference, but several news sites did say a gas tank or gas line could be a possibility.
But none of the articles I just read mention if a car could cause such an explosion to trigger the events. The car is in the garage on fire and it reaches its gas tank; the vehicle is parked next to one of the compromised columns or under the concrete slab of the pool deck.
Is that a possible trigger? I can't be the only one to think that.

SURFSIDE, Fla. (AP) — Demolition crews have set off explosives to bring down the damaged remaining portion of a collapsed South Florida condo, a key step to resuming the search for victims as rescuers possibly gain access to new areas of the rubble.
Crews were to begin clearing some of the new debris so rescuers could start making their way into parts of the underground garage that is of particular interest. Once there, rescuers are hoping that they will gain access for the first time to parts of the garage area that are a focus of interest, Miami-Dade Assistant Fire Chief Raide Jadallah has said. That could give a clearer picture of voids that may exist in the rubble and could possibly harbor survivors.
The precarious, still-standing portion of a collapsed South Florida condo building was rigged with explosive charges and set for demolition overnight, Miami-Dade County officials said late Sunday. The work has suspended the search-and-rescue mission, but officials said it will open up new areas for rescue teams to explore.

Concerns had mounted that the damaged Champlain Towers South building in Surfside was at risk of falling on its own, endangering the crews below and preventing them from operating in some areas. The approach of Tropical Storm Elsa added urgency to the demolition project. The latest forecasts have moved the storm westward, mostly sparing South Florida, but meteorologists have said the area could still feel effects starting Monday.
Jadallah said suspending the search effort was necessary during the drilling work ahead of the demolition because it could cause the structure to fail. SURFSIDE, Fla. (AP) — Demolition workers will bring down the remainder of a partially collapsed condo building in South Florida ahead of an approaching storm that has heightened concerns that the structure could crumble dangerously on its own, officials said Saturday.
The search and rescue mission was suspended in the afternoon as crews began the precarious business of boring holes into the concrete of the still-standing portion of the Champlain Towers South tower in Surfside, Miami-Dade Assistant Fire Chief Raide Jadallah told family members.
Jadallah said the suspension was a necessary safety measure because the drilling of holes to hold the explosives for the demolition could have caused the unstable structure to fail. If that were to happen, he said, “It’s just going to collapse without warning.”
But in a video stream of Jadallah’s briefing to relatives of the missing, one of them was heard calling it “devastating” that the search had to stop.
With Tropical Storm Elsa looming in the Caribbean and forecast to move toward the state in the coming days, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the building in Surfside is “tottering” and “structurally unsound” and demolishing it is the prudent thing to do.
“If the building is taken down, this will protect our search and rescue teams, because we don’t know when it could fall over,” DeSantis said at a news conference earlier in the day. “And, of course, with these gusts, potentially that would create a really severe hazard.”
The confirmed death toll from the collapsed 12-story Champlain Towers South, meanwhile, rose to 24 with the discovery of two more bodies in the rubble, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said. There were 124 people still unaccounted for.
The building won’t come down until Monday at the earliest, Jadallah said.
The remainder of the Champlain Towers South condo in Surfside, FL that collapsed will be destroyed.
