The #handmaiden first appeared in my paintings last year and I have become rather fond of including them with my #muse / #goddess figures. I'm not entirely certain of their purpose. Are they helpers, providing support? Do the emphasise the role of that particular goddess? That's getting closer I think. Are they like many women who have one or two close female friends who share an intimate friendship bound by history and like ideas and values?
