The Survival Trap. Why Our "Individual" Goals Are a Myth
We are caught in a clever trap disguised as personal growth. We are told to grow up and set our own goals. Be especially careful when someone writes, grow up, and set your own goals. Because it's an ego catch. Your goals can be individual but must fit into society. If you go against the grain, you fail. The truth is, humans do not want different things. We are herd animals. We want the exact same things as the rest of the flock. We want a family for support. We want money which is our own share of good grass to nibble on.
Your "individual goals" are game within the game When everyone wants the same thing, conflict happens. This struggle drives evolution. Even the push to become an independent adult is just a game within a game. We are simply raising "adult individual sheep" who still must belong to the same flock. What happens to those who quit the game? They end up on the street corner, begging with a cup.
Because we are built to survive. Our very minds are a trap. The way we see the world locks us into a single path. It is a cell with very little room to move. True freedom would begin if we had goals beyond survival. Or rather, true freedom is not to set yourself a goal at all. And that's impossible. It's a phantasy. Survival forces us to want the same basic life. To want life means doing the exact same tasks as everyone else. Setting goals is the survival trap within the 'sheep' herd.
