When I was a child, my Dad gave me a Pellet rifle to learn to shoot by plinking cans and targets; it's a great training tool for someone just learning how to shoot or just keep up inexpensive target practice. My old pellet rifle bit the dust long ago after tons of use, and a little misuse. So, my Dad gave me a single-shot .22 rifle and my pellet rifle was quickly forgotten when I saw that real bullets were superior to pellets. Now, older and wiser, I bought another: Gamo "Silent Cat" 1250 FPS, .177 Caliber Breakbarrel Gas Piston Pellet Air Rifle with 4x32 Scope. I use it for several reasons. It is nearly silent, can dispatch small game for food, impart a physical warning to larger animals to discourage them from returning and inexpensively hone my shooting skills.
