Two-part “Billy Joel: And So it Goes” Doc to Air July 18 and 25 on HBO Max

Paul McCartney is intrigued by him. Bruce Springsteen says “his melodies are better than mine.” And Billy Joel doesn’t know who he actually is.
“Sometimes, it’s alien to me - this guy, Billy Joel,” he says. “I don’t know who that is or what that is.
“I’m reminded of it when I go walk on the street, - ‘oh, right, I’m that guy,’” Joel says as “Piano Man” gives way to “Big Shot.”
McCartney, Springsteen and Joel are talking in the trailer for “Billy Joel: And So it Goes,” the two-part, Susan Lacy-directed documentary that airs July 18 and 25 on HBO Max.
Not particularly humble, Joel says “Uptown Girl could’ve been a Mozart piece.” But his humanity comes through as the clip alludes to Joel’s struggles with the scars left by the Holocaust, his absentee father, the loss of a fortune and a motorcycle accident.
