this sushi attempt was so embarrassing I don’t even want to talk about it. I ate it all as fast as possible and made something else for lunch the next day so no one would know my shame (as this is now on tumblr, I shall expand: no one will simultaneously my shame and my identity).
Sorry Will! This had to be done, for all of us sushi eaters/chopsticks users xD
I love you though!
My local supermarket makes better sushi than 90% of the restaurants I've been to over the years. There's something horribly wrong here.
Katimavik Adventure: Week 5 - Parc national du Bic: Eating crustaceans, house manager, sushi fail!
This past week, like any other week in Katimavik has been a non-stop whirlwind of things to do and places to go. There was even more pressure this week to actually get things done because next week we would be in billeting at St. Marcellin, where Violet and Virginie work.
Work for me this week at the Maison des Familles was pretty chill, as usual. A lot of gardening and organizing of toys which is good because it keeps me busy. I also tried to help Lise as much as possible with the phone calls. For some reason, everybody decided that this week would the be the week to call and ask about random questions I have no answers to. The good thing was that Marie-eve came back to work from vacation as I left for my house managing week.
So, house managing. It's definitely not as hard as it sounds. First of all there's two of us (Virginie and myself) to do all the tasks. If you are efficient you can finish all the chores in about an hour and half, which was exactly what we did. After all the chores were done, Virginie and I both got to relax and do our own thing. For this week unlike the other house managers though, we really had to get stuff done. The group had two big events that we needed to plan, one being the Caravane Amoureuse and the other being our long weekend excursion to Gaspesie and New Brunswick. I was definitely more then happy to get on board with planning for the long weekend. The only that was really stopping me from diving straight in was the whole, you know French thing! Everything would be so much easier in one language!! So that is pretty much what both Virginie and I worked on all week, and also preparing meals of course. All of our meals have been a big successful all except for the sushi dinner which failed miserably, but 3 out of 4 is pretty good if I do say so myself.
The big activity this weekend was going to Parc national du Bic. The most popular National Park in Quebec because of it's location right next to the St. Lawrence River, conveniently located about a 15 mins drive away from Rimouski. This would be the first ever activity decided by the group and planned by members of the group. It was the perfect day for going to the park. The sun was shining and the park was full of people coming in and out. Bic National Park is also a super popular camping ground during the summer so lots of people! The first thing we did was stop at the information centre in order to plan out our hiking route for the morning. It was a wonderful walk more then a hike, but it was nice doing something really active for once. The forest was so similar to that of Vancouver, it felt like I was back home again, especially with the water so near. It was so close, how could we not take off our shoes and jump right in. This was also during low tide so you could go really far out into the river! This also caused like tide pools here and there filled with swimming crustaceans which Sandrine decided would be fun to eat. She managed to drag Will, Pierre-Alexandre and I into eating one of them. I still can't believe i actually did it! After all that excitement there was still more, because of the parks' proximity to the river there was also a beach were there's just tons of seals lying on rocks napping and sun bathing. It was an amazing sight to see! All these grey blubbery seals hopping around on the rocks just chilling out. *Fun fact: In French the seal is called a phoque which is pronounced exactly like fuck. So you can only imagine how much fun we had just saying the word seal in French. Languages are so much fun! :D
Well another week gone, and now the entire group is off to billeting at St. Marcellin. Wish us luck!
