Day 04 - Least Favorite Female Contestant Susie Garcia

I don't know what it was about her, but I just never attached. I wasn't particularly impressed with her audition, and I was pretty surprised that she even made Top 20. She was just meh in her own style (which could have been her partners fault but still), and I didn't latch on to anything personality-wise. So yeah, in a strong season she was my least favorite. I'm sure she's a lovely person though :)

#61: "Dark Waltz" (Susie/Marquis smooth waltz), Top 20

This Hunter Johnson dude is ace at creating boring, repetitive waltzes. Sheesh. I think this is part of why they switched to mostly Viennese waltzes in later season instead of having so many of these. I just don't find smooth waltzes all that engaging for the most part. I think my attention span is too short or something, dunno.

Susie and Marquis did a good job with it, anyway. Except that lift. I'm not sure what that lift was supposed to be, but they played it off really well. Susie did, anyway. You would have thought that's how it was supposed to be if you just looked at her expression, lol. To be honest, I barely watched Marquis, but I don't think he did badly, not like in the salsa.

This waltz is just tiring. Like, how many times does Susie lift up her left while holding Marquis's hand? The song is slow and dull. I think it's a miracle these two didn't end up in the bottom that first week, actually. I'm not sure how Jessica and Will were there and they weren't. But whatever.

#79: "Aquanile" (Susie/Marquis salsa), Top 18

Speaking of Susie and Marquis.

I'm not gonna lie, I felt terrible for Susie in the package. Back in these days, getting your own style was actually stressful for the contestants because the judges weren't as easy on everyone, and then Alex Da Silva had to ruin her confidence and say that she "wasn't a real salsa dancer" where she could hear him. I didn't get him saying that she was a just a "street salsa" dance either, as salsa is a street style to begin with. I really don't blame her for being scared of the routine after that.

But I didn't think she did badly at all when she performed it here. Thing is, Marquis is awful, and him being such a weak partner brought the routine down on top of them having no chemistry, so it all just seemed awkward and detached when it shouldn't have. 

For real though, Marquis is SO BAD. His body movements look like jello. I think Mary said the same thing. It's rare that you see someone who's too loose instead of too stiff at ballroom, but it is so awkward for me to watch. Maybe he was just...trying really hard to not seem stiff and overdid it? I don't even know. 

But basically, I just felt really bad for Susie. Alex Da Silva is gross and awful.
