Sustainability data is often hard to manage, despite the noble intentions of ESG initiatives. One of the primary challenges is the disparate nature of data sources, from energy consumption metrics to supply chain transparency indicators. A robust data management strategy and technologies are required to integrate and harmonize these diverse datasets.
Further, ensuring that sustainability data is accurate, reliable, and accurate is persistently difficult. Data inaccuracy or incompleteness undermines the credibility of ESG reporting and hinders the process of making informed decisions. Rigorous validation of data processes and standardized reporting frameworks such as GRI and SASB guidelines are key to navigating the challenges of data inaccuracy.
