Jason is singing to me as I work from my home office today, surrounded by art that reminds me that everything is everything, that this is IT, that today is a miracle, that creation and destruction go together and mostly, to let go now. Happy Saturday loves #svetshop #thisisit
Been on the road for almost 24 hours. Plenty of time to reflect on the last 8 days. A time of no cell phone reception in the dessert. A time of love, joy, fun and deep reflection. I laughed, I cried, I learned and fell in love. I was faced with how absolutely beautiful I am, and how deeply gorgeous this universe is - though this isn't anything new. What a reminder of the power of the human spirit, especially when we all come together in love. I did not meet one human on the playa who didn't greet me and interact with me, with love. I learned that yes, I can make new friends in the middle of a dusty windy night, in a cold shower build by hand. My tears taught me that even in the dessert, I can and do produce water. I learned that I make a good god :) I danced. A lot. I made incredible new friends and found my family with Red Lightning. And on a night when I found myself sad, I was drawn to a little coffee shop, nourished by a warm drink, a gorgeous sunset and my journal, which now holds more beautiful art and words and reminders of renewal and possibility. This ended up being my favorite morning in the dust, alone, contemplative, in love, and grateful. Thank you to everyone who came my way. Thank you to everyone who expanded my heart and soul. I'm so glad I coming home with more dust than I've ever seen in my life - it'll be a beautiful reminder of what's possible till I see the playa next year :) And for all those loves who didn't believe this was my first burn, you can bet this isn't my last :) #thisisit #jetsvetter #svetshop #whenisnow (at Black Rock Desert)
It's that time again. This newest addition to my body art is inspired by many things. Care to guess what it says? :) It's all about how we look at the exact same thing :) #svetshop #thisisit #whatdoyousee
HOW TO TRAVEL THE WORLD ON A SMALL BUDGET & ENJOY IT!
I often see articles often to the tune of, “ how to travel the whole world without any money” and I laugh just as much as I do when I see ones titled, “ how to lose all the belly fat without lifting a finger.” Common folks, lets get real. Anyone who has actually traveled knows that one cannot travel with absolutely no money. Maybe it’s not YOUR money, but the bottom line is, someone’s money is a part of your travel, just like breathing is a part of living.
I have never had much money, yet I have traveled more than half the world with a very little budget and I’d love to share how I did and continue to do so. This to me feels like a much more realistic experience and desire. I’d also like to take this one step further. I’d love to share what to expect when you partake in such an adventure. This is not for the faint of heart. To do this, and you CAN do this; you need to start with three key ingredients:
Flexibility. Resourcefulness. Presence.
Be flexible, because when you have a limited budget, you might not get to do exactly what you think you want to do, you might do something even more amazing! Flexibility applies to timing, to location, to what you do upon arrival. It applies to who you spend you time with. It applies to your state of being. Flexibility truly is opportunity, and if you go into a travel adventure with an open mind, and nonattachment to any particular experience, I guarantee life will deliver something expectedly delicious.
I am currently in Costa Rica for a few months. I didn’t plan much for this trip, but I came here with an open and flexible mind. And things keep appearing to fill the space I have created for possibility. In just 15 minutes I am departing for a trip to the Cloud Forest in Monteverde. I made some friends who have a car and was invited. I did not rent the car, but I connected with people who did and threw in a little money for gas. One great way to save money: be friendly and get invited on adventures, then chip in!
The resourceful piece of the puzzle does not just apply to travel. This is a great one for life. Make your own food. Make your own clothing. Trade! There are so many fun way to do this. Cooking for yourself is a great skill to have and will save you tons of money. Making your own clothing is not only thrifty, it’s fun. Every time I see a fabric store when traveling, I’ll spend a few bucks on some local discount fabric and I’ll make my own scarf. This way, I get to bring a little taste of ________ back with me, without having to dish out mucho dinero.
The spice of presence is the most important ingredient in this delicious salsa of budget–travel-with-enjoyment! How often do we miss opportunities in life when we’re not paying attention? Presence allows us to connect deeper to people. People like people who are present, and they invite you along on adventures I have found. This is a fun way to find community abroad and save money! Presence allows us to notice street signs and train departure times. It allows us to show up at the right airport, and to actually enjoy that 8 Euro gelato once we’ve already licked it, and before you’re told the cost (in a very touristy Gelateria in Florence.) It also allows you to decide that you’re never going back to that ridiculous place that robs tourists of money. But hey, this is why I say that some money is necessary. All great lessons people!
Here are some things that you are likely to stumble upon when embarking upon a multi-month/year travel adventure.
You get robbed…
You lose your stuff…
You oversleep and miss the train…
You end up at the wrong airport…
That friendly traveler/local doesn’t show up…
You get lost…
Here is what else will likely happen:
You find your stuff, or realize you don’t need it…
You catch the next train or bus or plane…
You make your way to the right airport OR you fly somewhere unexpected…
You meet another friendly local or stranger…
You find your way…
By the way, a million other unexpected things might happen when traveling – THIS is why traveling is so wonderful. It forces us to embrace change and the expected. And, when having to deal with many of the above-mentioned circumstances, one needs money. Just as true as it is that getting robbed sucks, so it is the case that replacing a passport, or phone and rebooking flight or train tickets costs money. And guess what? That’s ok as long as you’re prepared for the possibility of such things happening.
Sure, there are ways to save money by cooking for yourself, not spending any money on alcohol, and crashing on couches. Oh, and this might be an obvious one, but not shopping really helps. I have replaced my desire to have a souvenir from every city I visit with my desire to snap a beautiful photo of ever city I visit. Pictures are actually free and everlasting. Getting my very nice camera stolen however cost me a lot of money. And this brings me to my next point: how to prepare for a budgeted trip and make sure that when life happens, you’re covered.
Travel insurance is the greatest invention ever. Travel insurance is the reason that when I did get robbed in Rome, and I got my camera and phone stolen, I got my money back! Travel insurance is the reason that when my airline lost ALL my bags after a 4-month trip, I got a huge sum of money. The greatest part of that story is that the day I received a very large check, my bags arrived too. Sometimes the universe gives us a massive high five. And if we are flexible enough to wait for it, resourceful enough to survive without it and present enough to receive it, well life AND travel is quite fantastic wouldn’t you say?
Happy & safe travels!

Waves. On the surface, or deep out at see. Breaking at the shore or amidst the deep body of water that houses them. In awe of the waves, I am. Watching and observing them every day. Inspired by the changes I see every day, and within a given day. How the tides constantly change. It's marvelous. The same body of water is so temperamental and peaceful every day, at different times. The same body of water calms me and frightens me, at different times. The same body of water teaches me to relax and be vigilant, sometimes while I'm interacting with it on the store, other times just a few meters in and also when I'm deep out at sea. There are lessons to learn from all locations, and I continue to marvel at the ever evolving sea. Like our emotions, the waves are constantly changing and just like with the sea, the more I sit on the shore, just a few meters in and also deep out there in the water, the more comfortable I become within the body. And the more I sit with my own emotions, and watch them interact on a surface level with others on my shore, deeper within me and then deep down in the inner recesses of my heart and soul, I discover a comfort and safety every day that brings me closer to myself. I thank you sea for teaching me so much about myself, and for helping me trust and let go and mostly, for helping me surf these waves with my physical body, my emotional body, my mental body and my subtle body. Deeply grateful for what nature teaches us. If we care to receive, the lessons are everywhere. #thisisit #grateful #mondaymorning #inspired #svetshop (at Playa Callejones)
