Magic wasn’t the problem. It never was. The problem was Mewman prejudice and bigotry. Destroying the magic didn’t solve the problem of Mina, she’s still out there and she still hates monsters. She even gave a whole villainous speech about it! Other Mewman’s still hate monsters. Also, Mewni and Earth were cleaved together. Star did all of this without thinking this through. The reason why I have such a huge issue with this finale is it feels out of nowhere. Not once did the show ever explain the problem with magic or all the trouble it caused. More than that, she’s irrevocably changed two worlds and I know people aren’t going to be ok with that.
More than that, she and the Butterfly’s are probably responsible for a lot more deaths than just Glossryck and the MHC. I mean, anything or anyone made of magic is dead. The implications of that are pretty terrifying. Also, the fact that she and by extension her family made this decision in spite of the fact other races in other dimensions use magic is pretty darn conceited. Yes, she stopped Mina and the Solarian warriors but at what cost?
The fact that magic apparently cleaved two dimensions together so Star and Marco could get their happy ending also bothers me. A lot.
Yet whatever issues I have with the final episode it doesn’t take away the enjoyment I get out of this show or how much I’m going to miss seeing new episodes. This was a great show and I feel like it ended too soon. But for what we got, I still think it was good.
