Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving for Americans, many of us are going to be spending the day with some of our less than supportive extended family. I thought it would be nice to add a prompt to our Canon Appreciation Month to counteract some of that. 

Submit your headcanons/fanworks about a character’s family and friends being supportive of and accepting of them and their orientation, or any other type of happy headcanon. I’ll queue the posts to be spread out through tomorrow so if your family is getting you down check back for some happy headcanons and fanworks. Some ideas:

Excerpts from books of their friends and family accepting and being supportive of them.

Headcanons/fanworks about things going well for them at family gatherings.

Headcanons/fanworks about their family and friends supporting and accepting them when they come out about their orientation.

Author Appreciation Project

As part of our canon appreciation month, we’ve assembled a list of contact information for the authors and publishers of the Expanded Universe material that includes canonically LGBT characters. 

If you’ve enjoyed these books and games, please consider sending a note to the author or publisher telling them how much the representation meant to you, and thank them for all their hard work.

Please be polite, and respect professional boundaries while interacting with them. You can ask questions, but know that they may not be able to respond due to deadlines or other commitments.

Part II of Pride Icons for the canonically bi/pan/poly characters in Star Wars for Canon Appreciation Month.

I missed Koth Vortena (top row) in the first set of icons I made, and the image I used for Theron Shan (bottom row) in the first set was not true to gameplay, so here’s Set II.

Both of these characters can be “romanced” by multiple genders in the expansions for Star Wars: The Old Republic, but it is unclear if they are bi, pan, or polysexual, so I made icons for all three of those orientations.

Pride Icons for some of the canonically gay and lesbian characters in Star Wars for Canon Appreciation Month

There are a few other gay and lesbian characters I couldn’t make icons for because they don’t have official art. They are Sinjir Rath Velus from Aftermath, Moff Delian Mors from Lords of the Sith, and Medrit and Goran Beviin from Legacy of the Force.

There are also a few characters who are in same gender relationships, but it is unclear if they are gay/lesbian, or bisexual/pansexual/etc. They are Shirene and Esmelle Susser from Aftermath, and Roan Lands from Last of the Jedi.

Female!Revan/Juhani Fanfic

I recently had the utter pleasure of getting to write one of my favorite canon video game pairs for a RarePair fic exchange and I figured I might as well share it over here since @queeringstarwars has declared November Canon Appreciation Month for the SW universe.

“Being obsessed with Star Wars again, I thought I might check out Chuck Wendig's "Aftermath"; when I learned that one of the leads was a gay man, I changed that "might" to "oh it's already on my iPad that happened quickly." Wendig gave me something that I never thought I would get from Star Wars, something I didn't even know I needed from Star Wars: Sinjir Rath Velus, an ex-Imperial officer that's quick with his wits and quips as well as his fists. He's scruffy, usually a little bit drunk, and he's gay. He's gay Han Solo. He's gay Han Solo. My heart jumps into my throat just reading that, it means so much to me.

I never saw gay characters like myself anywhere growing up; it's why I kept trying to date girls through to my senior year of college. If the original post-"Return of the Jedi" novel "Heir to the Empire" had had a Sinjir in it, I know that my life would have been changed. I love that character because he's the Han Solo archetype that I've repeatedly geeked out over since I was six, but he means even more to me because he, being gay, validates my metaphorical place among the ranks of the Rebellion. There are parts of America where I do not feel comfortable being an out homosexual, but Sinjir's existence makes me feel finally, truly welcome in Star Wars -- a thing I love and a safe space I return to over and over again.”
