Has anyone ever inspired you simply by their look? That is how I met Rashidat Owe, of Rashidat.com and Build Your Body Boot Camp. Each time I saw her post a picture on Facebook, I would have to take the time to LIke it or tell her how I wish I had her body. She just has that look, but I was even more surprised and inpsired upon discovering the hard work and determination behind it.
“I decided to change my life and get fit in February 2010 after I topped the scale of 222 lbs.” Owe says. She admits that implementing a healthier eating habits and lifestyle was difficult but in nine short months she had lost her excess fat and was competing in her first figure competition. Once a victim to drug abuse, Owe overcame her addiction 2003 when she decided to check herself into rehab.
When asked how big of a role does support play in the fitness game, Owe says, “Support is #1 HUGE ROLE!!. Keep in mind, we are here on earth to inspire one another. Surround yourself with likeminded people. A wise man once told me that, You are the top five people you surround yourself with. Simple rule: You hang with gym junkies then you will be one. You hang with couch lovers then…well…you will be one. So take a look at who you allow in your life. Are they gym goers? Do they watch their diet? Are they active? Maybe you have to do some eliminating along the way in order to keep a great support system.”

For those who do not have the same self discipline as Rashidat, she suggests, Change your attitude to think positive. Do not dwell on the past AT ALL. Constantly remind yourself of how beautiful, how strong and how disciplined you truly are. Start slow…. I always say if you walk fifteen mins from your house you have to get back home right?
When she is not working out, Owe says she enjoys spending time with the ones she loves. She also volunteers with a nonprofit organization, Kids off the Block, where she trains and motivates inner city kids from a local high school.
