!!————————————!!
It's a bad idea to want to surprise your boyfriend, Jason, but you can't help it after being off-world for so long. Before the two of you had gotten together, he had warned you of his busy schedule and his frequent outings. Now it seemed foolish to have said in comparison to your own. So here you sit, crouched behind a metal container at his most frequented safe house, waiting for those heavy booted steps to walk through the door.
And when they did...
"...shit, babe, don't fuckin' scare me like that." Is the lame reaction he gives you, after merely pausing at your pop-up scare. Damn bats and their stupid reaction training. His helmet goes off, black hair a frizzled, greasy mess under, and his exasperation softens. It's tossed haphazardly as you meet him halfway across the room for a bear hug.
"Didn't say you'd be back so soon," Jason murmurs against your ear. His arms provide a warm squeeze, comforting to your sore body. Thick and heavy just like the rest of him. You were only gone for a few months, but God, you missed him!
Your nose drifts up and digs into the side of his neck for a subtle sniff. Wafting back are traces of some shitty, cheap cologne and his natural scent. A bit sweaty, too, but you don't mind too much. Jason hums, nosing back at your cheek in solidarity before stepping back. "I'm assuming the mission went more than well, then, yeah? My own personal big blue out to save the day."
This time, he smiles for real. Small and gentle, saved just for you. He moves to cup your face, thumbing at the shape of it before dragging you in for a sweet kiss. "...yeah."
In the back of the place, there's a shitty TV set up and a beat-up couch that the two of you curl onto. Man, if there's one thing Earth does right, it's its commodities. Leisure like no one else. Jason throws on a historical movie neither of you care to much about. You, busy with your face pressed up against your stomach, and he, jotting down notes from patrol over your back. It never ceases to amaze you the amount of surveillance a single city like Gotham needs. You've been to denser, more peaceful cities. You wonder if it's a job that will ever end, passed down from his father, to him, to his younger brothers. "Baby, quit moving."
...they'll be fine. After all, their vigilantism is a responsibility taken on out of love for their home and its people. It's no chore. They have hope for their city, and that's all you can ask of them.
