The invasion of the bees.
.
i took a pic of this little sweat bee that was asleep on my shoe for some reason and aside from the bee itself the color palette here is identical to like, a good 50% of gaming related advertisements from the 00s. they loved dark muted blues and purples, you have to take my word for it
this other angle just makes it look stupid as usual. all is well with the world

I shouldn't have done this. It was actually incredibly reckless of me, considering I am highly allergic to bees.
But there was something about this quiet micro-moment that made the world completely stop.
Most people walk past a patch of wildflowers and think, “Pretty,” never realizing that if they stopped for a moment and looked a little closer, they might find an entire universe waiting for them.
Today, I met a tiny bee covered in pollen.
At first, she hesitated. She tested my finger, deciding if I was safe. Then, after a few quiet moments, she climbed aboard, cleaned the pollen from her face, and went on her way.
Maybe that sounds silly, but it got me thinking.
I spend a lot of my life observing. Looking closer. Noticing what most people seem to miss. Maybe it's because for a large part of my life, I felt completely unseen and I know exactly how much that ache hurts. I never want to be the person who makes someone else feel invisible, no matter how small their world might seem
I think, in a way, going through that in life taught me to pay attention. To notice.
So I do.
I see the people standing quietly at the edge of the room. The person smiling when they're breaking inside. The tiny insect hiding on a flower stem. The bee everyone else walks past.
For a few minutes today, I wondered what she saw.
There's a giant here.
This could be dangerous.
But... I think she’s safe.
The truth is, I think most of us are just walking around hoping someone will look a little closer at us. Hoping someone will see past the surface and decide we're worth stopping for.
Consider this your reminder to slow down today. Notice the people. Notice the small things. You never know what beautiful worlds are waiting to be found when you finally slow down enough to see.
Sometimes it's a bee. And sometimes, it's a person.

Metallic Sweat Bee (Subgenus Dialictus)
Harms Woods - Glenview IL - May 25th 2024
It is such a joy when I get to photograph small bees and this one in particular has such a serious looking face that it is honestly so cute.
If anyone has any more clue as to what species this one might be I'd appreciate the insight!
Imagine having a rainbow-striped butt
very tiny, very sleepy.
