snakes really make you appreciate how gross mammals really are. squamates are very dry and clean
a bird is a kind of reptile that has learned to be yucky.
Fourteen-spotted Lady Beetle (Propylea quatuordecimpunctata), female, taken July 9, 2026, in Massachusetts, US
A gorgeous yellow ladybug perched on the underside of some white flowers, reaching for aphids and looking radiant in the sunlight! This is yet another introduced ladybug species, ferried in on agriculture shipments from Europe, though they were intentionally introduced to regions of North America in the late 1900s as means of invasive species control due to their strict aphid diet. Despite the introductions, lab-reared populations seem to have a high failure rate in the wild, so a majority of wild populations can be attributed to accidental introductions. They're quite small, though about average size for a ladybug, and very, very beautiful!

SHOW THE BABY HORSESHOE CRABS PLEASE
standard disclaimer not to take HSC eggs home; they are a vital protein source for many migrating birds and require a very specific setup to raise!! with that being said, our table of babies:
and for comparison, one we’ve raised up for about three or so years now:
most we release, some we trade to other permitted education centers and aquariums, and a couple we raise for our touch tanks!! :)
