Today my uncle was so kind, driving me to Heidelberg to find a tiny museum at the university: The Prinzhorn Collection. The collection houses art made by the mentally ill as part of their treatment; it also holds the letters Emma Hauck wrote to her husband, found after her death. I have looked at photos of these letters for years. I have studied them. I wrote a play with the intent of embodying them on stage. None of that quite prepared me for seeing one in person. The letter is tiny; maybe 4x6. Emma’s pencilled writing is very fine and light; this does not appear in photos at all. It was like the letter could just fade away completely some day. #SweetheartCome (at Sammlung Prinzhorn) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd_k0f3sW-2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
