These soft orange cookies are a delicious treat with a citrus flavor burst. The zesty orange combined with a light dusting of powdered sugar creates the ideal sweetness balance. Serve these cookies as a snack or with friends and family.
Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1 cup granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Zest of 1 orange. 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice. 1/2 cup powdered sugar for rolling. Additional orange zest for garnish optional.
Instructions: Warm the oven up to 350F 175C and put parchment paper on baking sheets. Mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl with a whisk. On a different large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until they are light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice and beat until everything is well mixed. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ones and mix them together until they are just combined. Take dough balls about the size of a tablespoon and roll them into balls. Roll each dough ball in powdered sugar until fully coated and place them on the prepared baking sheets. Use the bottom of a glass to gently press down on each dough ball. After the oven is hot, bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. For a few minutes, let the cookies cool on the baking sheets. Then, move them to a wire rack to cool completely. If desired, garnish with additional orange zest before serving.
