These adorable heart-shaped shortcakes are a delightful treat, perfect for a romantic picnic or a sweet dessert. The fresh strawberries and fluffy shortcakes make for a perfect combination that will melt hearts.
Ingredients: 1 cup all-purpose flour. 2 tablespoons granulated sugar. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder. 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed. 1/3 cup whole milk. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced. 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting. Whipped cream optional.
Instructions: Preheat your oven to 425F 220C. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to incorporate the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pour in the whole milk and vanilla extract, stirring until the dough comes together. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it's smooth. Roll out the dough to a 1/2-inch thickness and use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shortcakes. Place the shortcakes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they're golden brown. While the shortcakes cool, slice the fresh strawberries and set them aside. Once the shortcakes have cooled slightly, split them in half horizontally. To assemble, place a layer of sliced strawberries on the bottom half of each shortcake, add a dollop of whipped cream if desired, and then top with the other half of the shortcake. Dust the top with powdered sugar and serve immediately. Enjoy your Tiny Heart Shortcakes with Strawberries!
