Austin has some amazing BBQ joints and the most legendary (even though it's not very old) is Franklin BBQ. Eating at ‘SALT LICK BBQ’ - this is THE place to eat while in Austin.

BBQ is the name of the game.  Austin has some amazing BBQ joints and the most legendary (even though it's not very​ old) is Franklin BBQ. You have to stand in line from the early morning hours to be sure you get some of the worlds best brisket before they run out - which is usually around noon. So this will be a heavy breakfast/brunch kind of deal. Outside of Austin there are some great spots as well and I  will venture​ out to either Driftwood, TX for Saltlick BBQ or to Lockhard, TX where they have several great joints such as Black's and Kreutz's Market.

Apart from that there is of course a lot of Tex Mex options. One of the best is Chuy's fajitas on Barton Springs Road. Look out for Beeritas (frozen margarita with a negra modello stuck upside-down into the drink). It's great if you drink it fast. And you do.

A stroll around South Congress is mandatory. Some cool shops and eateries and a lot of back yard parties during SXSW.
