“Don’t tell anyone,” he made her promise. She was heartbroken at what he had just told her. What else did she expect though? This was the guy she’d known for the longest time and she should’ve known better than anyone else.
She sluggishly walked through the swimming pool. Something calming yet at the same time terrifying about it. Memories from Summer PE resurfaced and she grimaced. He walked out of the changing room and it was hard to ignore the slight discomfort as he carried his bag on his shoulder.
“You need to get it checked out,” she demanded as she took his bag from him and slipped it over her own shoulder. He ignored her comment and it made her pissed.
“Hyuck,” she ordered firmly and he only shook his head to show her he didn’t want to talk about it. She sighed and gave in. He wasn’t going to change his mind right now. She needed to pick a different approach.
They got to his house and stayed in the car. Although she thought he’d want to escape her questioning gaze, they just awkwardly sat there and stared straight ahead.
“Hyuck,” she whispered softly as she finally turned in his direction and he hesitantly met her gaze. He knew the conversation would be coming any time soon.
“Please,” she whispered out pleadingly and something in Hyuck’s heart broke. Seeing her like that, so powerless and hopeless. It was even worse that he was the one who caused that.
She grabbed the hand closest to her and held it in both of hers. She brought it up to her forehead and began to sniff. She was on the verge of tears and she didn’t even try to hide it.
“Stop crying,” He urged as he tried pulling his hand away from her reach. She held on tight, though.
“We need to get it checked out! What if it’s something horrible. If you need rest, please rest. Things could get worse,” She exhales shakily and scared of all the what ifs running through her head.
Meet me at the swimming pool so we can go home together.
Okayyy~
She walks to the pool excitedly after packing all her books up in the library. She had stayed after to study and Hyuck had stayed after to practice his swimming.
She walks into the area, not expecting to see him still in the pool, swimming laps. But what was more surprising was the bruise forming on his left shoulder. His whole shoulder seemed to be shades of purple and green. Her mouth drops and she quickly runs to the edge of the pool.
“Hyuck,” She calls out and he looks up from across the pool. His eyes widen and he quickly grabs a towel and exits the pool. He‘s struggling although he tries to hide it.
“I’ll be out in five,” He says and tries to run into the boys changing room but she catches up to him before he can.
“What happened?” She asks and she raises her hand about to touch it but then retracts it. She’s too scared to cause him any more pain.
“I was fake wrestling with Renjun, and he slammed me into the floor,” He replies, not meeting her eyes and her worried gaze transforms into an angry one.
“You need to get it checked out,” She orders and she is pissed. Why the hell is he here swimming when he’s clearly not in the position to do so? Who the hell does that? Why didn’t he tell her about it?
Then he pleads for her not to tell anyone about what she just saw as if it’s not a big deal.
“Okay, tomorrow,” He says and she shakes her head no.
“Right now,” She says and Hyuck bickers with her about the late hour, but she does not care. He needs to know what’s wrong as soon as he can, and right now is the soonest he can.
Hyuck finally caves in. She drives to the nearest clinic and they walk through the emergency room. She’s with him throughout the whole ordeal. Even when he’s getting the check up. It breaks her heart whenever she sees Hyuck flinch from the stretching they have him do.
“We’ll get the x-rays out in about half an hour, feel free to wait here. I’m sure it’s just swelling and inflammation,” the nice doctor says before exiting the room.
She sits beside Hyuck and places his hand in her own two. She leans on his uninjured shoulder and waits for him to say something.
“I was scared.” He begins to speak and Luna is all ears for him. “I didn’t want to stop practicing. There’s no time for that. We have to start off the season strong, and this isn’t the right way to do so. I didn’t want to worry. And I didn’t want anyone else to worry either. Especially you,” He finishes and leans his own head on hers.
“Hyuck, I’m here for you to make me worry. I’m sure I’ll make you worry some time too, please don’t ever keep things like this from me again,” I say and place a small kiss on his shoulder. He places a feather soft kiss on top of my head and we wait for the results.
“You have a small tear in your tendon. Shoulder tendonitis. It was made worse with whatever impacted your shoulder that hard, you’re gonna need a lot of rest, pain killers, and icing it is very important,” the doctor explains as he looks at Hyuck.
“I’m a swimmer, how long will it take for this injury to heal?” He asks with a slight tremble in his voice. She places a reassuring hand on his thigh and gives it a slight squeeze.
“These things take a while to heal. It could be two to four weeks. Just make sure you’re stretching and if you’re really eager to make it heal. Go to physical therapy, although that probably won’t be necessary. Yours isn’t too bad. I’d say you can get it out of your life in two weeks if you do everything I tell you to,” the doctor says as he looks at Hyuck seriously and with a hint of pity.
Hyuck sighs but she can’t tell if it’s from relief or from stress. She hopes it’s the former.
“It’s okay. I’ll help you stretch everyday and I’ll make sure you get your painkillers. If you want to do physical therapy, I'll accompany you,” she says as she leans down and forces Hyuck to meet her eyes. His head was down and staring at the floor, so she had to kneel on the floor.
Hyuck nods and she embraces him softly. Trying her best to not touch his injured shoulder. He’s breaking down in front of her.
“Don’t worry, this’ll be over in no time. It’s only one of the many obstacles you’re going to have to face,” she continues to soothe him and Hyuck begins to wet her shirt, but she doesn’t mind.
“Thank you, doctor,” she says and smiles at the doctor.
“Where can we pay?” She asks and the doctor smiles.
They end up arguing for a good ten minutes until they settle on a fifty fifty bill. She knew that Hyuck was pretty mad about that, but she wanted to pay for half, and she wasn’t giving in any time soon.
Hyuck is able to recover in two and a half weeks and the bruise is gone as if it were never there. Swimming practices had begun but he hadn’t missed anything too big. The best part about the whole ordeal was having her by his side.
