Jack isn't a violent man. He's never been one to start fights on the ice, there's always been a bigger body between him and the altercation. Fighting is counterintuitive to his larger goal on the ice-- after all you can't score from the penalty box-- so he abstains, lets someone else toss the gloves down.

Even still, Jack has never so badly wanted to punch someone in the face as he does now, sitting across from Jeff Troy. Troy's expression is smug, eyes glinting in the dim light. Jack privately wonders if he gets off on this, being a complete and total asshole.

"For what?" he bites back, taking the bait. It's not as if there's anything else to do, he doesn't even know where in Vegas they are, Kent had dragged him out after the game instead of letting him go back to the hotel and lick his wounds. He's not sure if he should be grateful for that, especially not when the only Ace to talk to him is making him want to put a fist through a wall.

Jeff takes a long sip of his drink, smacking his lips once. "Not telling Kent about that." He nods to the glass in Jack's hand, half empty and half melted ice.

Instinctively, Jack glances over his shoulder. "Kent's not my mother."

"And yet he seems to always clean up your messes." Jeff muses, swirling the dark liquid in his glass.

"You're drinking too." Jack doesn't care that he sounds like a petulant child, he'll say anything to get rid of the sour taste in his throat, a habitual reaction to enduring Troy's presence any longer than strictly necessary.

"Yeah, well, Kent hasn't had to stick his fingers down my throat to get me to throw up." Troy says it casually, hardly even looking over at Jack. "Suspect it's a different case."

Jack breathing skips a beat and he can feel the faint rushing of blood in his eardrums. "I bet you'd like that, wouldn't you." The words are ugly, and he takes a long sip from the glass in hand. He's let it sit too long, it's too watery, but he's not picky.

Jeff snorts, shaking his head. "Don't count on me to hold your hair back when you vomit tomorrow morning." he says dryly, standing from the bar and surveying the crowd of his teammates, as if he's trying to find a way in.

"I'd rather choke on it."
